Inferring Network Characteristics via Moment-Based Estimators

چکیده
In this work we develop simple inference models based on finite capacity single server queues for estimating the buffer size and the intensity of cross traffic at the bottleneck link of a path between two hosts. Several pairs of moment-based estimators are proposed to estimate these two quantities. The best scheme is then identified through simulation. Keywords—Queueing, measurement, monitoring, simulation.

Parameter estimators of random intersection graphs with thinned communities
This paper studies a statistical network model generated by a large number of randomly sized overlapping communities, where any pair of nodes sharing a community is linked with probability q via the community. In the special case with q = 1 the model reduces to a random intersection graph which is known to generate high levels of transitivity also in the sparse context. The parameter q adds a d...
متن کاملGel Criteria for Moment Condition Models
GEL methods which generalize and extend previous contributions are defined and analysed for moment condition models specified in terms of weakly dependent data. These procedures offer alternative one-step estimators and tests that are asymptotically equivalent to their efficient two-step GMM counterparts. The basis for GEL estimation is via a smoothed version of the moment indicators using kern...
متن کاملModelling of directional data using Kent distributions
The modelling of data on a spherical surface requires the consideration of directional probability distributions. To model asymmetrically distributed data on a three-dimensional sphere, Kent distributions are often used. The moment estimates of the parameters are typically used in modelling tasks involving Kent distributions. However, these lack a rigorous statistical treatment. The focus of th...
متن کاملEstimation of Density using Plotless Density Estimator Criteria in Arasbaran Forest
Sampling methods have a theoretical basis and should be operational in different forests; therefore selecting an appropriate sampling method is effective for accurate estimation of forest characteristics. The purpose of this study was to estimate the stand density (number per hectare) in Arasbaran forest using a variety of the plotless density estimators of the nearest neighbors sampling me...
